Victim-Survivor Panel Highlights Healing and Community Support

Drew Glover

On October 23, 2024, the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, and Reconciliation (SCNTR) hosted a powerful Victim-Survivor Panel as part of the VIP Quarterly Stakeholder’s Meeting. This event brought together victims, community members, and local leaders to explore the path to healing and how the community can better support those affected by violence.

The panel featured four survivors who courageously shared their personal stories of healing and resilience after the murder of their loved one. Their insights offered attendees a deeper understanding of the challenges victims face and the critical role the community plays in their recovery.

The discussion was facilitated by Mark Myles, SCNTR’s newly appointed Outreach and Community Organizing Manager. Myles guided the conversation with thoughtful questions, asking panelists to share their perspectives on how the Selma community can contribute to their healing journey.

Among the community stakeholders in attendance was District Attorney Robert Turner Jr., who expressed his unwavering support for victims and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to address violence and its aftermath.

This panel not only highlighted the strength of survivors but also underscored the need for continued community dialogue and action between varied stakeholders. SCNTR remains committed to fostering spaces where healing, justice, and understanding can flourish.
