Upcoming Training Opportunities with SCNTR

The Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth, and Reconciliation (SCNTR) is excited to announce three upcoming training opportunities designed to educate, inspire, and equip individuals to build more just and peaceful communities. These workshops are open to the public and offer both virtual and in-person options, catering to those looking to deepen their understanding of racial equity or learn the principles and practices of nonviolence.


1. Racial Equity Training

  • Date: December 10, 2024

  • Time: 4:00 – 7:00 PM (CT)

  • Location: Virtual (via Zoom)

  • Cost: Free


This free, virtual training dives into the root causes of racial inequities and explores strategies for creating more equitable systems and communities. Participants will examine historical and systemic racism, its impact on society, and actionable steps to dismantle inequality. Whether you’re an advocate, educator, or community leader, this session provides valuable insights and tools to address racial equity in your work and life.


2. Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation (CORE) 2.5-DayTraining

  • Dates: March 3–5, 2025

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (CT)

  • Location: In-person, at the SCNTR located at 8 Mulberry Road. Selma, AL 36703

  • Cost: $375


Based on the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this intensive CORE training offers an introduction to the philosophy and methods of Kingian Nonviolence. Over the course of 2.5 days, participants will learn about the Six Principles and Six Steps of Nonviolence, practical strategies for conflict reconciliation, and how to implement nonviolent approaches in personal, professional and institutional settings. Ideal for anyone looking to gain a foundational understanding of nonviolence, this training emphasizes practical application in addressing social and interpersonal conflicts.


3. Kingian Nonviolence Level 1 Certification

  • Dates: March 3–7, 2025

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (CT)

  • Location:  In-person, at the SCNTR located at 8 Mulberry Road. Selma, AL 36703

  • Cost: $775


For those ready to dive deeper, this five-day Level 1 Certification training provides comprehensive instruction in Kingian Nonviolence principles and methods. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of nonviolence as both a philosophy and a strategy for action. This certification is particularly valuable for educators, activists, and leaders looking to integrate nonviolence into their work. Graduates will be equipped to facilitate conversations, mediate conflicts, and advocate for justice using Kingian Nonviolence frameworks. Participants will be equipped to co-train a 2-day CORE.
